Interview with Margot Berwin
Author—Scent of Darkness
Do your friends think you are an introvert or an extrovert? Why?
My friends think I’m really outgoing but I’m actually an introvert posing as an extrovert. See, writers have two lives-one where they socialize and get themselves entangled in all kinds of crazy. And another where they go home, alone, and write about it. Be careful about getting involved with a writer—unless you like reading about yourself.
What one word describes you?
Freelicious. You won’t find it in the dictionary.
What would we find under your bed?
My entire life. I live in NYC and my place is tiny so the space under my bed is valuable real-estate!
Use no more than two sentences. Why should we read your book?
Have you ever loved someone evil, looked for answers in tarot cards and horoscopes, and spent a few hours in the perfume section of Sephora? That’s why.
At what point in your life did you realize you wanted to be a writer?
I knew I was going to be a writer when I was seven. At six, I wanted to be a painter, but that position was already taken by my father.
If you could exchange lives with any of your characters for a day, which character would you choose and why?
I would like to be Levon. He’s young, exotic, gifted at reading the tarot, sensual, and has his whole life ahead of him. And he’s a boy and I’d love to know what that’s like for a few days!
New York or LA. Why?
Can I cheat and say I would really LOVE to be bi-coastal? New York for sex, friends, passion, and excitement. LA for hiking, camping, and playing volleyball on the beach!
Is there one passage in your book that you feel gets to the heart of your book and would encourage people to read it? If so, can you share it?
Sure, here it is:
My name is Eva from the longer and more beautiful Evangeline. I had something very special once, something that I took for granted and lost. I set out to find it again, and as so often happens, it was right there in front of me. Or should I say it was right there inside of me, running through my veins like a blessing, or a plague.
Scent of Darkness
Genre: New Adult / Paranormal
Date of Publication: January 29th 2013
Number of pages: 240
When Evangeline's grandmother dies she leaves behind a ruby-red vial of perfume with the instructions: Don't pull out the stopper, Evangeline, unless you want everything in your life to change.
From the moment Eva places a drop on her neck, she becomes the object of intense desire for everyone around her. Soon she's torn between Gabriel, a quiet medical student, and Michael, a beautiful and self-absorbed artist.
Scent of Darkness is about loving someone who is evil, tarot, New Orleans, and of course perfume.
