AUTHOR INTERVIEW

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
I feel like the hardest part is taking the form of my story and filling it in with sensory details. Sometimes I’ll try and immerse myself in whatever environment I feel like is similar, to try and get the right sensations down, and to come up with the character’s thoughts.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?

Not at the moment. I usually just write a draft of a novel or story, set it aside for a while, and look at it again at some point with fresh eyes. But I’d love to have beta readers. If you want to be a beta reader, please contact me!

Do you hear from your readers? What kinds of questions do they ask?
As of yet, I’ve only really heard from readers through these blog tours. Feel free to contact me any time, readers!

Do you use a pen name? If so, how did you come up with it?

I considered using a pen name, and then discarded the idea, just as fast. I use my real name, just because I find it to be a lot easier, and I don’t write anything particularly racy, so I don’t feel the need to conceal my identity.

What was the scariest moment of your life?

The scariest moment of my life was seeing my boyfriend’s eyes go all black like a shark’s, and realizing that I was dealing with a psychopath. That’s what this novel is about, and in a way, I feel like my experience has given me a kind of strength, in that I feel more fearless than ever.

What do you do to unwind and relax?

I find painting to be fairly relaxing. Sometimes I’ll hop into a hot bath, to relax for a while. But generally, relaxing isn’t my thing, and I have to really force myself to slow down.

Do you have any suggestions for beginning writers? If so, what are they?
Yes. I would suggest to submit your work to a bunch of different places, instead of just applying to one place at a time and waiting. When you’re just starting out, what you need to do is build experience in having your work published, and it’s not really the time to be picky. Later on, you can be a little more choosy with where you submit.

ABOUT THE BOOK

by Leslie D. Soule

GENRE:   Fantasy

BLURB:

With five crystals to destroy, in order to rob the dark lord Malegaunt of his power, Ash Kensington's path is set. She begins a quest with the talking cat, Greymalkin, and her wyvern, Slick. But when she meets up with the handsome dragon slayer, Draeon, her senses overwhelm her, and she becomes distracted. Will she be able to destroy the crystals in time to challenge Malegaunt?

EXCERPT

“What can I do for ya?”

She looked at the bartender and said sorrowfully, “Give me a spell to make me forget.” I’ve wasted so much time, she thought to herself, and now I don’t know if I can get back on track. Malegaunt is out there, and none of the crystals have been destroyed. It drove her mad.

He shook his head and pushed a pint of dark beer across the bar. “This is the best magic I know. That’s why I’m a bartender.” He pointed down the bar a ways to a man who looked to be in his forties, if not older. He was clothed in a black coat, and his stubbled face was hunched over a glass of what looked like whiskey on the rocks. “Now, that guy over there, on the other hand, he might be able to help ya. People call him the Oracle of the Oasis,” he informed her.
