AUTHOR INTERVIEW with Maynard Blackoak;
Eerie Trails of the Wild Weird West
Welcome! Thanks for agreeing to this short Q&A! I am so excited to be hosting you today and can't wait to find out a little about you and your unusual book!!
Describe what it’s like to be an author in three words.
Ups and downs
Say your publisher has offered to fly you anywhere in the world to do research on an upcoming book, where would you most likely want to go?
Do your friends think you are an introvert or an extravert? Why?
I tend to be reclusive and private. I believe the few who count me as a friend would call me an introvert, though I don't believe I fall into either category exclusively.
Do you have any special routines or rituals?
I have a favorite chair and like to write while having black and white movies or classic TV shows playing in the background as a distraction.
Use no more than two sentences. Why should we read your book?
Eerie Trails of the Wild Weird West is a strange and entertaining ride that will give you a new appreciation for the old west.
What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
I've ridden a bull twice in my lifetime. I have to admit neither time ended well. However, what would surprise people is that I plan to to try it again after 40 years. I really want to make that 8 seconds.
What do you find most rewarding about writing?
Having someone I don't know tell me how much they enjoyed my story.
If you could exchange lives with any of your characters for a day which character would you choose and why?
Dangerous Dan Tucker the vampire gunslinger. I can imagine the possibilities and places I would travel.
Is there a piece of advice that you have received that has really stuck with you? If so, what was it?
There are two pieces of advice that have remained with me. Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Accept criticism with the same appreciation as praise. Someone took their time to give you feedback.
If you could select one book that you could rewrite and add your own unique twist on, which book would that be and why?
The Grapes of Wrath to get some of the facts right.
