Undying Embrace by Jessica Lee: Interview

Hi, everyone, Jessica Lee here, author of the Enclave series. First of all, thank you, Laurie, for allowing me to post my interview on your fabulous blog today. I finally succeeded in convincing Arran MacLain, former Enclave warrior from Undying Embrace, to sit still long enough to answer a few questions. He's a man of few words and very private, so don't expect a lot of details about his past to come through. But I gave it my best shot.

What was the scariest moment of your life?  Strange question for a vampire who stares death in the face on a daily basis. You'd have to be afraid of dying, giving it power get under your skin and crawl up your spine for it to make you scared. So no, I haven't been afraid in a very long time.

Yet, now that I think about… there was that night in the Enclave Headquarters, when I was on my knees in front of Gabrielle... Arran closes his eyes and shakes his head. Never mind.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? Not hungry.

What are you passionate about these days?  The hunt. I have a score to settle with my former Enclave partner, and over the last few months, completing the task is all that matters.

What do you do to unwind and relax?
Drink. Sharpen my blades. Repeat. Not that the first step provides much relaxation, since alcohol has little effect on a vampire, but the act off sipping on the suds is a hard habit to break.

If you could apologize to someone in your past, who would it be? Between us…?. Arran leans in closer to me. Logan… for reasons I have no intention of getting into here. And most of all, Gabrielle. For hurting her. For giving her the smallest hope that there could ever be anything between us.

Morning Person? Or Night Person? How do you know?  *chuckles* Come on… I'm a vampire. What do you think?

Who should play you in a film? Interesting question… If I had to choose, I'm thinking that guy from Sons of Anarchy, Charlie Hunnam. Yeah. He's got the hair, and I hear he's available now.

Well, that's all I was able to wrangle out of Arran. He doesn't enjoy talking about himself. But if you want to know a little bit more about what happens between the warrior and Gabrielle, I hope you'll check out Undying Embrace.

Arran MacLain is a vampire on a suicide mission, driven to kill his former partner who betrayed him and the Enclave they served. But two things stand in his way: Gabrielle, the human female who holds his heart, and the past that won’t let him go. If only death was enough to cleanse his soul.
Gabrielle Steven’s sister is missing. Her hunt for clues brings her face to face with the one vampire she can’t forget. Their missions combine and thrust them into the heart of evil. Will their passion be enough to overcome the pain from their past, or will their dark desires destroy them both?

Almost every author's bio states they've been writing since they learned how to read. It's what they've always wanted to do. Well, my journey wasn't so straight and narrow. I was a nurse for over twenty years and hold a bachelor's degree in science with a major in biology. So as you can see, my career path had originally gone in the opposite direction. I didn't discover my passion for the craft until after I'd had my son and decided to work part-time.
I've always loved to read but had never read a paranormal romance. Then one night at work on break, I began reading Karen Marie Moning's Spell of the Highlander. I couldn't believe what I'd been missing, and I immediately fell in love with the genre.
I wanted to write like that. I wanted to create worlds where others could find the same escape and fascination I did when I read my first sensual paranormal romance.
And I hope that's what I've accomplished in my work. Please dive in, hold on tight, and enjoy the adventure. Just be careful in the dark—you might find more than you expected waiting for you there.
Jessica Lee lives in the southeastern United States with her husband and son. She loves writing and can't wait for that quiet time each day when her son is in school, and she can get lost in another place and world with the fantastical, sexy creatures in her head.
She’s a member of Romance Writers of America, FF&P, and Carolina Romance Writers.
