Silence of the Wolves by Hannah Pole: Interview: RABT Tour Stop

Thank you so much for having me! You are an awesome, awesome bean!

You're so welcome.  I'm happy you are here and agreeing to answer some of my questions . Has someone been instrumental in inspiring you as a writer?

Hell yes, first and foremost it has to be J.R Ward. Her black dagger brotherhood series got me into urban fantasy to begin with! Keri Arthur, J.R Rain and Rachel Vincent kept me there and inspired me to write. P.C Cast gave me the courage to take the leap into territories unknown!

I owe my career to those ladies and gents!

What was one of the most surprising things you learned while writing your books?

That I simply disappear. I mean before Silence of the Wolves, writing was a conscious thing, something I thought about and planned. When I was writing this novel on the other hand, I stopped being conscious of what I was writing, it was more like watching it happen before my eyes. I disappeared so completely into the novel that I actually surprised myself when I read it back! There was a lot of ‘surely I didn’t write that?’ – for a while I was convinced I was just falling asleep and little helper elves were writing for me! ;)

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Haha! Oh god! When I was about five, I wanted to work in an office in London and live in a flat with my dad, my best friend and a horse. I know, I was a strange child. Since then I have wanted to be a singer, a fireman, a vet, a spy… you get the idea. The worst part is, almost each and every career ambition I have actually taken steps towards… and given up on! Writing is awesome because I now have the power to be whatever I want to be! Today I am a werewolf journalist. Tomorrow I might be a secret lesbian lover of a Politician!

Are the names of the characters in your novels important?  How and why?

In a way yes! Actually they are all names my other half and I have discussed for future kids names or something. They are the one’s DP has shot down and sworn against…! (He is a pain in the A- sometimes!) But I love them too much to let them go! Soooo they go in my novel haha!

Morning Person? Or Night Person? How do you know?

Night person! I do all of my best writing at night! Often DP will fall asleep (he snores and twitches like a beast) and I will be sat writing til the very wee hours! (I actually have a large notebook next to my bed because I constantly think of awesome bits and pieces to include while I’m *supposed* to be sleeping!)

Tell us about the absolute BEST fan letter you have received.

Haha! I got a cartoon! Some guy had been following my posts and sent me a drawing he’d done of me! It had ‘Silence of the Wolves’ written all over it and ‘My new favorite Author’ written beneath it!

What is the next big thing?

Well, Silence of the Wolves is the first in the series, which is exciting in itself! Song of the Soul, book number two, should be coming out in October!! YAY!! And Bite of Vengeance is currently being written…

The next big thing however is possibly something completely new I have in the works… It will be called Night of the Fallen and will be the first in my Creatures of the Night series… VERY EXCITING!

Do you have a favorite quote, quip, or saying? What is it?

‘Before you insult someone, ALWAYS walk a mile in their shoes.
Because that way… When you DO insult them…

You are a mile away from them……….AND you have their shoes.’

If you could exchange lives with any of your characters for a day which character would you choose and why?

Possibly Sapphire! I have a real soft spot for her! She is truly one of the boys and fully hard core for a female. I cannot wait to write her book!

TOUR SCHEDULE

I am a born and bred wild child. (Or I like to think so anyway!)

I moved to sunny Folkestone UK to escape and find my feet as, well whatever I was destined to be! But alas, my short attention span made finding that destiny a little difficult! One day I came across a diary entry that made me laugh so hard; I actually fell off my chair. (Yes, this can happen!)

I decided that the entry was so funny; it needed to be shared with the world! So I started writing, and attempted to turn it into a novel. Though to this day, that novel remains unfinished, it will always be the novel that got me started, and showed me what I was passionate about.

Honestly? I have aspired to be everything from a Private Investigator to a Zoo Keeper with my career; my interests change so quickly that I could never stick with one! Writing gives me the freedom to choose; I can be a cold-hearted assassin in love with a poet one day and the secret lesbian lover of a politician the next!

All my life, I have had a strong, unwavering passion for anything supernatural, spiritual and slightly unexplainable, I love the idea that there can be something completely fantastical lurking beneath the confines of normality. So of course, mythical creatures of all shapes and sizes dominate most of my work!

In a nutshell, I am a creative crazy bean, living with my lovely husband and a house full of too many animals! I've always secretly wished I were a werewolf of some description, but have come to realise that I will have to settle for writing about them instead! I'm happiest in the sun with my head in a good book!

All I can say from here is I hope you like what you read!
