What book are you reading now?
I just finished Through the Ever Night, by Veronica Rossi. I really enjoyed it!
If you were to write a series of novels, what would it be about?
Actually, I am writing a series right now, about a time-traveling girl named Claire McDaniels. She has an extra Gift not found normally in girls: she has the Land Sense, a powerful awareness of her land and all that live upon it, plus the ability to hear the songs of the sun, moon, and stars. Unfortunately, she faces very difficult challenges, including being torn from her land, and she will have to do a lot of growing and learning before she can help her cousins heal the land and restore the rightful leader of the family.
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
First I wanted to be a vet. I had a large number of pets and took care of them all. Then I decided I was going to be an artist. I spent many hours copying C.W. Anderson’s lovely drawings of horses, as well as drawing other animals. In high school, I decided to be a teacher and ended up teaching five years at the elementary school level. Even though I have been writing stories and poetry my whole life, it was only a few years ago that I decided to write a novel and get it published.
Right now my favorite is Merlin, a show on BBC. We’ve been downloading the episodes and watching them every night. They are great!
What songs are most played on your Ipod?
Owl City, One Direction, Jonas Brothers, Michael Jackson’s hits, Backstreet Boys, and the Goo Goo Dolls.
What is your favorite meal?
Without a doubt, Chinese food from either Chin’s in Carlsbad, California, or from the Mandarin Restaurant in Bountiful, Utah.
What group did you hang out with in high school?
I was very shy in high school and didn’t have many friends. My sister and I used to go over to our friend’s house after school. My friend was a quiet girl who happened to have a ping pong table and a mother who made delicious chocolate chip cookies. Then we’d pick up my sister’s guitar from home, and go to another friend’s house. This friend loved music, and she taught us how to play guitar. We learned all the latest pop songs on the radio and had a great time together. My favorite was “I Feel It In My Fingers” -- and believe me, after playing for a few hours, I really did feel it in my fingers!
Do you play any sports?
I am not coordinated enough to play sports, but I enjoy walking, yoga, swimming, and occasionally dancing.
What do you do to unwind and relax?Read, of course!
