Deep Connections by Rebecca Graf: Character Interview and Excerpt: FMB Tour Stop

Tahnee – Character Interview

Tahnee is the mother of Slaton, one of the main characters and love interests in Deep Connection.

What do you think makes a good story?

I think there needs to be unexpected twists that keep the reader hooked. If you know what’s going to happen, it ruins the story and doesn’t keep you interested.

Tell us about your family.

I have the most wonderful family. The love of my life is Grey. I don’t know what I’d do without him. He is the rock that keeps me sane. Then there are my two sons: Slaton and Layford. Slaton is a grown man just finding his own true love. I’m so proud of him. He is still maturing when it comes to women. Thank goodness he has found Brenna who will help him get there. Layford is my eighteen year old son. He is growing up, too, and is so handsome. I see how much he looks like his father at that age. He is also struggling with finding his own place in the tribe and as a man. My heart aches for him. Then there is Brenna. She was a friend before she became like a daughter to me. I see such a strong woman in her, but she has to discover how strong herself.

What was the scariest moment of your life?

It was the time when my son went after Brenna when she was kidnapped the second time. We knew a little more about Creeper and what he could do. Any mother would have been terrified knowing that her children and husband were in so much danger.

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a nurse. I love helping people and it seemed nurses were always doing that. That was before I discovered Grey as my love. Then I just wanted to be with him.

What is your favorite meal?

I love fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. My mother made it every Sunday, so it has a special memory in my heart.

What group did you hang out with in high school?

I was one that moved throughout most of the groups. I was a nerd in a way as I studied so much and made good grades, but I usually got along with everyone. That meant the cool kids invited me to events and the groups all over the spectrum felt comfortable with me.

What are you passionate about these days?

I’m passionate about saving my family. There is a demon loose that is trying to kill anyone who gets in his way, and my oldest son is in the way. I want to protect them the best I can.

Morning Person? Or Night Person? How do you know?

I am a little bit of both. I get up early and am usually in a good mood. I find that I am productive at night as everyone else is usually asleep.

What is the next big thing?

Oh, I’m on a mission to find out more about Creeper. I actually have a connection to him that I’m just finding out, but I can’t say much more. That would spoil it for everyone.

Do your friends think you are an introvert or an extravert? Why?

I’m a quiet extravert. I am not the least bit shy, but I don’t mind being the wings. I am actually quite content to sit on the sidelines and quietly observe.

Book Description:

Just as love appears, so does the darkness. With her heart reaching out for one man, Brenna finds herself the target of an unknown stalker. Who is he? What does he want? How far will he go for her? Death is an option. Brenna discovers more than she bargained for and learns that the stalker will kill for her. It all comes down to decisions, and no matter what she chooses it will demand sacrifice and someone's blood.

Brenna’s eyes fluttered open to see a blur of trees flying by.  Her head pounded and her stomach began to roll from the pain she felt and the fast-changing scenery.  A careful look at her surroundings told her she was in some older model car.  She inhaled deeply to calm herself, but confusion set in as her senses were assaulted by unfamiliar smells.  Her eyes widened in fright as terrifying memories began to flood her mind.  Turning slowly, afraid of what she might see, she gazed at the man behind the wheel of the speeding car.  She shivered when she saw he was just as repulsive as she remembered.  Who was he and what did he want with her?

Sensing her stare, a pair of dark, soulless eyes turned towards her.  A smile appeared on his unkempt face.  “Well, well, sleeping beauty awakes.”  Brenna’s stomach rolled again as she felt his eyes slide hungrily over her body.  She pushed up against the door in an effort to put as much distance between the two of them as she could, but he shook his head in disapproval.  “No need to be  dramatic.”  He turned his attention back to the road.  “We both know you won’t jump out.”
