The Hunt (VV Inn, book 2) by C J Ellisson-Interview, Review:Bewitching Tour Stop

Vivian thinks she can control every aspect of a deadly game with her usual manipulations... but what if she can't?

Seven vampires and seven werewolves pay to hunt a supernatural criminal across the cold, vast grounds of an Alaskan resort. The one to catch her, and live through the encounter, will increase their power by feasting on hers.

The tiny vampire they track is more than she appears, however. To escape a fate of twelve years in silver chains, she'll do anything to survive the weeklong excursion. This time, the darkness holds more than just the stinging bite of the Arctic--it holds death.

Journey along, in this next installment of  The V V Inn series, for a wild ride as the tale is told through the eyes of all the new seethe members.

Warning: This book contains some explicit sex scenes and is not intended for readers under 18.

REVIEW

I am reading this book now and I'm about 50% into it.  It is easy to read and enjoyable.  I will post my review soon but at least before the tour ends.

INTERVIEW

Where do you dream of traveling to and why?
I want to travel the whole world. My husband and I both love to travel and the only things holding us back right now are our children’s age and money (gee, I bet that holds back lots of people, now that I think about it). Our goal is to travel more internationally with our kids when they are teenagers and right now we focus on places we can drive to with our camper. It’s cheap and we can bring our dogs.

The first places I’d like to see when we do make it overseas would be to train ride all through Europe, with lots of stops, Africa, and Australia. My books are set in Alaska and I get my dream come true to visit there next summer via an Alaskan vampire-themed cruise, called Vamps at Sea. Way cool.

Tell us about your current release.
This book, The Hunt, was challenging to write for many reasons. Mainly, the multiple POVs were harder than I thought and yet essential for how I outlined the book. I really wanted the readers to get to know the other players, but I loathed doing what so many authors do—stand alone books dedicated to a couple and their adventure in coming together. I think all of life is an adventure, whether you live it with someone or journey it alone, why must a series be broken down to pair-ups?

Avoiding the common PNR pattern helps the book to shine and stand out from others on the market, especially since I would never call my books paranormal romance. The readers have been giving me great feedback so far, but a few do long for the tale to be told strictly from Vivian's viewpoint. I haven't seen your review yet, Laurie, but I'm hoping you enjoyed it!

Well, CJ I'm actually reading it right now and enjoying it.  I will post my review as soon as I can but at least before your tour ends. Tell us about your next release.
Big Game is due out this winter. It picks up where the last book left off—Vivian, Rafe, and part of the seethe travel to Argentina and the rest stay in Alaska for a never before werewolf/shifter hunt (normally the Alaskan inn closes in the summer). Each novel does have a unique adventure and are not “cliff hangers”, but the underlying story arc of Vivian's old enemies will be completed in this third book.

What is the hardest part of writing your books?
Trying to find a balance is my biggest challenge. Like any mom, I find myself pulled in many directions. When you toss into the mix that I’m trying to launch a new career and must handle all the promotion, marketing, and many other minutia details… well, I find making the time to sit my butt down and write is the hardest part of all. I’m never at a loss for ideas—I just seem to be living in a perpetually half-organized state of life!

What does your significant other and family think of your writing career?
My husband is thrilled. He makes half-jokes and quips constantly about when can he retire, but the truth is that will probably be a long way off in the future. I think our kids are even more proud than I am. They tell everyone and try to make it into a bigger deal than it really is; after all, I’m a gazillion steps away from being rich and famous by any stretch of the imagination.

My folks and my brother are both proud, as are my aunt and cousins. They’ve all been great and very supportive. Our nephews, who have characters based on them in the books, seem torn between happy for me and embarrassed by the content. Of course, it’s incredibly amusing that my own parents aren’t shocked by the explicit content but our manly-man Army nephews are!

Does your husband read your stuff?
My husband reads everything I write, even the occasional blog post. He’s a smart man who knows if he didn’t I’d either refuse to have sex with him again or smother his ungrateful ass in his sleep. Needless to say, he does it and helps me with ideas and plot lines as well.

Do you have critique partners or beta readers?
Lots of both! I work with a really talented group of authors. We’re always willing to read for one another and offer assistance whenever asked. At one point I had over 250 beta readers with the first book. I cut back with the second one dramatically to about twenty. It was easier to manage and process the feedback.

Do you hear from your readers? What kinds of questions do they ask?
Yes! When sales took off this past summer I started hearing from them daily across more avenues (website, facebook, and email) and with increasing frequency. I can’t begin to describe the charge I feel when I see an email come in from someone I don’t know with the subject line referencing my books. It’s kind of like the feeling we got as kids around the holidays. “Oh! A reader wrote to me! Me! Wow! I must rush off and read it right this very second!!” Occasionally the emails get stuck in my spam filter, so I check it weekly, but I respond to every single one.

The question I see the most is “When will the next book be out?” LOL! Talk about incentive! Really gets me focused on writing.

Thanks for having me here today, Laurie! You had some great questions and I had to hold back from wanting to answer more of them.

Thank you for the Interview, Laurie! You did a great job on the layout on your site, it really looks terrific.

I look forward to reading your review, and I was wondering -- is that when you plan to do the contest giveaway? I noticed a lot of the tour stops weren't aware I'm willing to giveaway 2 sets of the series in ebook format to their commenters. I'm not sure if it is a detail they missed in the media kit or perhaps they don't want to run a contest.

Either way, if you decide to have one, just let me know.

Cheers and thanks again for your time!

Great interview. I can totally relate about the travel plans, we do plenty of smaller, local, day trips with the little guy. I tell him bedtime stories of faraway places to get him interested in travelling.

Thanks for the giveaway! I'm always looking for new authors and this author is new to me. The cover of her books remind me of the old "Bewitched" TV show, which I loved, so I'm intrigued by the covers alone!
